Caring For Your Primrose
Temperature: Average to cool, minimum at night 50-60°F (10-16°C). Tolerates as low as 45-55°F (7-13°C) for prolonged periods.
Light: Partial shade or bright indirect light. Prefers humid air.
Watering: Soil should remain evenly moist but not wet.
Fertilize: Monthly from after blooming until dormancy.
Soil: Add peat moss to an equal volume of general houseplant mix for a humusy and well drained combination.
After flowering: Primula x polyantha is quite hardy and may be reflowered; Primula malacoides is best raised as an annual and discarded after flowering. For Polyanthus Primroses, continue to water and fertilize regularly throughout the growing season. They may be kept outdoors in a sheltered location during summer and moved indoors before the frost. During the winter, maintain the plants in an unheated room, or on a cool windowsill or enclosed porch, keeping the soil moist. Primulas flower any time from autumn to spring.
